The Southeastern Wisconsin Service-Learning Consortium (SEWSLC) is a group of pk-16 educators committed to the use of service-learning as an engaging teaching and learning method.
Our Mission:
To promote the use of service-learning by serving as a clearinghouse of resources, provide professional development and networking opportunities for its members, and support partnerships between community and educational institutions.
The Consortium has four major goals:
- Information and Referral Resource
The consortium will be a storehouse of information. It will serve as a warehouse of best practices in service-learning, including service-learning initiatives of consortium members. Data on successful service-learning practices will be catalogued and referrals will be available to those developing new programs. - Collaborative Problem Solving
The consortium will coordinate the development of service-learning definitions that will clarify the goals of service-learning and provide common language. Common areas of activity will be coordinated through the consortium, including such projects as connecting service-learning to a global curriculum. - K-16 Coordinating Function
Through collaborative partnerships, the consortium will coordinate training programs for educators and facilitate joint grant opportunities. The consortium will coordinate articulation agreements between PK-12 districts and higher education institutions in southeastern Wisconsin. The DPI and WiCC will serve as statewide partners. - Advocacy
The consortium will help districts move forward by advocating for service-learning, the increased visibility will motivate teachers, professors, PK-12 districts, and higher education institutions to integrate service-learning into the culture and mission of their districts and institutions. Once service-learning becomes accepted and institutionalized in the mission and culture of school districts and higher education institutions, the consortium's role will be diminished.
